Another success story from the Good Shepherd’s Breakfast Club – a lady transitioned from rough sleeping to securing accommodation in less than an hour, thanks to the collaborative efforts of Good Shepherd, P3 and other organisations across the city.
Shaz Kaur, Keyworker at the Good Shepherd said:
“During our usual morning outreach, we found a lady sleeping rough who we’d previously supported and we believed to be housed.
“We found out that after a dispute regarding her housing benefit, she had abandoned her tenancy and was back on the streets.
“In doing so, she had self-neglected, missed hospital appointments, was drinking excessively and her mental and physical health had been deteriorating.
“We invited her back to the Good Shepherd for the Breakfast Club at 10am and by 11am we had sorted the issues with her housing benefit and secured emergency accommodation with P3.”
“She’s built a relationship with myself and Paul (Keyworker) and we are now also supporting her health appointments and with access to food.”
The Good Shepherd’s Breakfast Club has been running for just over 12 months and offers people who have been rough sleeping the night before the chance to have a cooked breakfast, a hot shower, access to clean clothing and advice and guidance to help them back into accommodation.
This story is testament to collaborative working across the city with key partners to achieve the best outcomes for some of the most disadvantaged people in Wolverhampton.
